Perfect Vision: 2020

What do you see?

2020 is the year of perfect vision, the year of insight. How are you choosing to see things?

Much is swirling in the collective atmosphere – fears around COVID-19, the resultant economic turmoil, an impending presidential election – just to name a few. Information is easily available, yet much of it seems devoid of actual meaning or relevance, leaving our minds to fill in the blanks. The uncertainty is palpable, and it is pushing us to take a true look at our inner world: am I acting out of fear or benevolence? Am I acting out of scarcity or abundance?

One thing we may realize during this time of slowness is the breadth of our interconnectivity, how deeply we are intertwined as a society yet how out of touch with one another we may be. Notice who you are reaching out to and with whom you are spending these more intimate moments; notice which people you are no longer seeing face-to-face as a result (the barista at the coffee shop, your child’s teacher, the man at the gas station) and the impact this has on you. Are you spending this time calling loved ones, playing cards in your home, and finally making that recipe you’ve always wanted to try, or are you glued to the television, breathing in the minute-by-minute rollercoaster of emotions and untethered statements. Take a step back and take an honest look at yourself – is this, these thoughts, moments, memories - what you want?

Now, more than ever, we see the importance of taking care of our bodies and minds. We have the power to prevent or to contribute, and it begins with what we put into our bodies, whether food or thoughts. It is our duty to be vigilant, washing our hands as we always should. It is our duty to eat well in order to support our incredible immune systems and strong minds. It is our duty to continue to exercise, meditate, and pray. If you could not find a reason to do better in these areas before, now you have a societal reason that is greater than just you or me. I recently read, and resonated with, this time being a huge OPPORTUNITY to uplevel and to step into the most well version of ourselves.

Let’s choose to act out of LOVE. Let’s choose to be well, to treat each other well, and to treat ourselves well. Let’s be present for those who are affected. Nothing in life is certain, so let this be our reminder to pause and to be grateful. Let’s be an example, BE the perfect vision.

Blessings to everyone!
